Brent Hits $100 as Hormuz Crossings Drop to Two Month Low
Brent crude hit $100 a barrel for the first time since May as shipping disruption deepened across the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. Tanker crossings through Hormuz slipped to the lowest in more than two months, data showed, while owner Torm said an oil products tanker rerouted a voyage to Asia through the Suez Canal after Houthi warnings.
The Houthis struck at least one Saudi vessel on July 22 to enforce their naval blockade of Saudi Arabia, the Institute for the Study of War said. A Greek tanker carrying Saudi crude exited the Red Sea with its transponder off, while other ships turned around even as some Chinese and other tankers continued through Bab el-Mandeb. The UN called for urgent action to help thousands of seafarers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
