Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 5 at Half the Price of Fable 5
Anthropic launched Claude Opus 5 on Thursday, rolling out the model across paid Claude plans and the API at the same price as Opus 4.8 and half the price of its Fable 5 model. The company said Opus 5 delivers performance close to Fable 5 and will be the default model on Claude Max and the highest-end option on Claude Pro.
Artificial Analysis, which said it supported Anthropic in evaluating the model ahead of release, ranked Opus 5 slightly ahead of Fable 5 on its Intelligence Index, 61 to 60, and said it offered comparable intelligence at 26% lower cost per task. The firm also said factual knowledge still lagged Fable 5 and hallucination rates rose 14 points to 50%. Anthropic said Opus 5 includes five effort settings and a Fast mode that runs about 2.5x as fast at 2x base price, while GitHub Copilot, Cursor and Perplexity said they are rolling out the model.
