Canada Cancels Gordie Howe Bridge Ceremony With U.S. After Trump's 50% Tariff Threat
Canada canceled a joint opening ceremony with the U.S. for the Gordie Howe International Bridge after President Donald Trump threatened new 50% tariffs on Canadian goods.
Prime Minister Mark Carney said he and Trump agreed to accelerate trade talks in an effort to avert the new 50% tariff and resolve trade friction. The White House has said the additional 50% duties on certain Canadian products would take effect Aug. 19 and were aimed at what it called Canada's discriminatory treatment of U.S. cars, alcohol and dairy.
