House Passes $1.15 Trillion Defense Bill With $60 Billion Iran Funding and Israel Integration Clause
The US House of Representatives passed the fiscal 2027 National Defense Authorization Act on a 216-212 vote, approving a $1.15 trillion military spending package. The legislation now heads to the Senate after crossing partisan lines, with six Democrats joining all but seven Republicans to back the measure.
The bill authorizes $60 billion in additional funding for the ongoing conflict in Iran and includes a provision that deepens joint defense technology cooperation with Israel. Lawmakers opposed the expansion, warning it would make the security partnership harder to reverse, while the package also cleared measures addressing transgender military policies and firearms on defense installations. Both chambers will need to reconcile differences before the spending measure becomes law.
