U.S. Treasury Sanctions Hamas Funding Network, Muslim Brotherhood Chief and Two Charities
The U.S. Treasury sanctioned Muslim Brotherhood Secretary General Mahmoud al-Abyari and two charities for channeling hundreds of thousands of dollars to Hamas’s military wing, blocking all associated assets.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control also designated a money exchange based in Turkey to facilitate the transfers, along with organizations operating in Indonesia and Gaza. The designations expand existing financial restrictions on the group’s support network.
