AMD Invests $5 Billion in Anthropic for 2 Gigawatts of AI Chips
AMD and Anthropic have signed a multi-year partnership valuing tens of billions of dollars, under which Anthropic will purchase up to 2 gigawatts of AMD’s latest Instinct MI450 series GPUs for data centers starting in the first half of 2027.
As part of the agreement, AMD is making a $5 billion equity investment in Anthropic tied to deployment milestones, and is in discussions to provide a financial backstop for future data-center leases. The partnership also includes an engineering collaboration to use Anthropic’s Claude models for optimizing workloads on AMD’s AI accelerators, a move that broadens the chipmaker’s competitive footing against Nvidia.
