Houthis Resume Red Sea Shipping Attacks, Say They Targeted Two Saudi Oil Tankers
Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea resumed on Thursday, with the group saying it had targeted two Saudi oil tankers and prompting condemnation from the UN’s Yemen envoy, the International Maritime Organization and the UK.
UN envoy Hans Grundberg said he was alarmed by the renewed disruption to Red Sea navigation, though he said a negotiated political settlement remained possible. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez called the latest attacks on international shipping indefensible and warned of risks to seafarers, global supply chains and potential pollution, while the UK said the attacks endangered lives and seriously violated international law.
