White House Redirects $200 Billion Federal Research Funding To AI And Individual Scientists
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy released a report directing approximately $200 billion in annual federal research and development funding toward artificial intelligence initiatives and individual scientists. The policy framework moves federal grants away from traditional university research programs to accelerate discovery and streamline bureaucratic funding mechanisms.
Titled Science: A New Golden Age, the report outlines 20 national science and technology challenges spanning semiconductors, biotechnology, and nuclear energy. It also establishes the American Science Cloud to share government-curated datasets and introduces alternative funding models including prizes and fast grants to support independent researchers.
