Perplexity Adds Grok 4.5 To Computer Orchestrator At $4.76 Per Trial, Beats Opus 4.8 On WANDR Benchmark

Perplexity adds Grok 4.5 to its Computer research tool as the highest-scoring orchestrator on its internal WANDR benchmark. At a cost of $4.76 per trial, the model scored 0.328, beating all five tested configurations including Opus 4.8, which reached a 0.254 score at $9.46.

The integration drops the price of agentic research tasks to roughly half the cost of the previous benchmark leader and coincides with a separate free trial announcement from xAI via the Grok Build CLI. Perplexity’s Computer harness delegates research, coding, and document processing across subagents, with the new Grok configuration now live for enterprise organizations and all subscriber tiers.

We're releasing a research preview of a new orchestrator model in Perplexity Computer. The model is an adapted version of GLM 5.2, post-trained for the Computer harness. It delivers near-frontier performance at 0.344x of the cost of Opus.

@perplexity_ai

The model has an advisor tool that natively escalates to a stronger model when needed. This model is hosted in the U.S. by Perplexity on Nvidia B200 GPUs. We will improve the model in research preview and publish full benchmarks in the co

We’ve been post-training a version of GLM that is trained to escalate to a frontier model inside the Computer harness. When paired with an advisor, this model functions at Opus 4.8 grade performance at a fraction of the cost. Available now

Long term, we think the right way to orchestrate open source and frontier models is to post-train them to get good at advisor escalation to a frontier expensive model when necessary, inside an agent harness that’s already deployed in produc

Very impressed with @SpaceXAI's Grok 4.5 model. Inside the Computer harness, it scored the highest on our internal benchmark WANDR, which measures agentic research capabilities, at half the price of Claude Opus 4.8 (high); and scores even b
