Trump Declares Iran Ceasefire Over, Agrees to Talks as US Imposes Sanctions
President Donald Trump said Iran had asked to continue talks with the United States and Washington had agreed, but the U.S. had told Tehran “in no uncertain terms” that the ceasefire between the two countries was over.
Later, the U.S. Treasury announced new Iran-related sanctions targeting Iranian financial facilitator Ali Ansari and what it called Iran’s shadow exchange houses. Treasury said the move followed Iran’s resumption of attacks on international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and described Ansari as overseeing a global asset network benefiting Mojtaba Khamenei and other regime elites. An Iranian official later rejected Trump’s claim that Tehran had reached out for talks.
