Gakonst Launches Centaur as an Open-Source Claude Tag Alternative to Cut Annual AI Costs to Tens of Thousands
Gakonst has introduced Centaur, a self-hosted open-source AI assistant designed to run on enterprise infrastructure, positioning it as a direct alternative to Claude Tag. By swapping access to frontier models for custom fine-tuned open-source versions on each channel, the developer projects annual subscription expenses will fall to the low tens of thousands of dollars, representing a 10- to 100-fold reduction over current pricing structures.
The platform requires only a single Python file to deploy alongside major enterprise chat and development environments, including Slack, Discord, Linear, and GitHub. Built since January to manage Paradigm’s internal compliance requirements, Centaur features GitOps version control, durable deterministic workflows, and native integration with secret managers like AWS KMS, Google Cloud KMS, and HashiCorp Vault. The tool currently supports existing hosted models, with updates planned to fully unlock enterprise data ownership and model substitution.
