Bitcoin Recovers to $64,000 After Strategy Sells $216 Million in Bitcoin
Bitcoin climbed back above $64,000 late Monday, recovering from a $61,000 low earlier in the day and marking a roughly 7.5% gain on the week. The rebound occurred after Strategy disclosed it had sold 3,588 bitcoin for $216 million, an initial selloff that triggered about $214 million in short liquidations and fueled a sharp intraday recovery.
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, disclosed the divestment in a regulatory filing to fund dividend payments for its digital credit securities. The shares were sold at an average price of approximately $60,200, significantly below the company’s $75,476 average acquisition cost. CEO Michael Saylor stated the sales are part of a monetization program authorized to liquidate up to $1.25 billion in bitcoin while the company retains 843,775 BTC.
