Iran Rules Out Talks With US Until Washington Meets Conditions on Hormuz and Oil Exports
Iran will not enter negotiations with the US unless Washington first reverses its positions and implements prior understandings, including on transit through the Strait of Hormuz and the normalization of Iranian oil exports, Fars reported Saturday, citing a source close to Tehran's negotiating team. Later in Muscat, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met his Omani counterpart and discussed mechanisms for safe passage through the strait, according to Iran's foreign ministry.
The Oman talks followed a US demand that Tehran publicly commit to halting attacks on ships in the strait and keeping all lanes open without tolls. A diplomat with knowledge said Qatari officials were also taking part and the sides were discussing a potential statement on fully opening the median lane in international waters, though Tasnim later cited a source saying decisions on the waterway's future management would be made only by Iran and Oman.
