OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Luna Beats GPT-5.5 in Health Tests at 25x Lower Cost
OpenAI said GPT-5.6 improves health intelligence across its lineup, with the smallest Luna model, at the lowest reasoning effort, outperforming GPT-5.5 at its highest reasoning setting while costing 25x less. The company said the advances raise quality while making advanced models accessible to more people globally.
Separate evaluation details said physicians in blinded side-by-side reviews found fewer flaws in GPT-5.6 responses than in physician-written answers across 20,000 axis ratings, with Sol appearing strongest. Artificial Analysis separately said Sol and Luna were ahead of Terra on its intelligence-versus-cost chart, while a separate benchmark result put Sol's long-horizon single-cell biology score at 42.5% versus 15.9% for GPT-5.5.
