U.S. Navy Suspends Search for Sailor Missing After Helicopter Crash in Arabian Sea
The U.S. Navy has suspended its search for the last missing crew member following the July 1 crash of an MH-60S Seahawk helicopter in the Arabian Sea. U.S. Naval Forces Central Command confirmed the suspension late on July 5 after more than 102 hours of recovery efforts, marking the service member as presumed dead. The identity of the missing sailor will remain withheld until next of kin notification is complete.
U.S. Navy aircraft and ships, including assets tied to the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, covered more than 14,000 square miles during the search operation. The missing sailor was assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 5. Emergency water landing procedures successfully saved three other crew members, who are currently in stable condition. The Navy previously stated there were no indications the crash resulted from hostile fire.
