OpenAI Expands Cybersecurity Initiative to Patch 50 Open Source Projects
Cybersecurity firm Trail of Bits announced Tuesday that OpenAI’s "Patch the Planet" initiative has expanded to 50 open-source software projects. The program, which began earlier this year with 19 targets including networking tool cURL, programming language Python, digital-signature registry Sigstore, and message queue service NATS, now aims to help maintainers secure widely used infrastructure.
Under the partnership, OpenAI provided Trail of Bits with its most advanced models specialized in cybersecurity tasks. The AI tools are used to identify vulnerabilities, suggest patches, and reduce the manual workload for developers who maintain critical codebases, as part of an effort to harden the software supply chain.
