Money Managers Flip Brent Crude Futures to Slightly Net Short
Money managers reduced their net-long positions in Brent crude oil futures and options by 34,704 to 55,634 for the week ending June 30, flipping non-commercial traders slightly net-short, according to weekly positioning data from Intercontinental Exchange (ICE). Holdings from long-only investors fell by 11,724 contracts, while short positions rose by 22,980.
The data from ICE’s Open Positions in Trading report also showed that other reportables trimmed their net length by 33,207 contracts. The reduction marks a shift in speculative positioning for the global crude benchmark, which is widely used to set physical oil prices across Europe and Asia.
