US Expected to Lift Export Controls on Anthropic's Fable 5 AI Model
The US Department of Commerce is expected to lift export controls on Anthropic’s Fable 5 advanced AI model as early as Tuesday evening, according to a senior White House official speaking to Politico. The move would mark a rollback of restrictions that have placed the frontier model in federal custody for more than 17 days.
The export limits, implemented in late June, disrupted global access to Fable 5 and Anthropic’s Claude chatbot, prompting Austrian officials to lobby the European Union to host the AI company to reduce reliance on Washington's tech policy. Relaxing the controls would clear the way for Anthropic to resume a full, worldwide release of Fable 5, one of the industry's most capable large language models.

@synthwaveddGood news - Anthropic have been given the go-ahead for a full, global relaunch of Fable 5 once the order is formally lifted! I believe they'll wait until they're back in office (so tomorrow at the earliest) before kicking it off however
