Russia Considers Gasoline Imports as Drone Strikes Trigger Fuel Shortages
Russia is considering importing gasoline to address a worsening domestic fuel shortage, a notable shift for the world's second-largest crude oil exporter. To manage the crisis, Russian authorities have introduced strict rationing measures, including bans on gasoline and aviation kerosene exports, with a full diesel export ban under consideration. Moscow is also weighing downgrading fuel quality standards to Euro 2 to boost domestic output for up to a year. The strikes have strained refining capacity, with the Omsk refinery reported as the only major facility still operating at full capacity following the hit on the Slavyansk plant. The supply disruption has led to long queues at petrol stations across the country, underscoring the tangible economic impact of the drone campaign on Russian civilians.
