Trump-linked firms tied to $9 billion US critical minerals funding
The Trump administration has provided or is considering providing $8.9 billion in funding to 14 firms that have financial ties to the Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick families, according to a New York Times investigation. The agreements target critical minerals mining deals intended to secure domestic supplies of strategic materials essential for batteries, semiconductors, and defense manufacturing.
The reported financial arrangements are expected to draw scrutiny over conflicts of interest. One agreement detailed in the reporting granted US-backed Kaz Resources access to one of the world's largest untapped tungsten deposits in Kazakhstan, with up to $1.6 billion in potential US financing. According to the report, investors tied to Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Howard Lutnick’s family acquired financial stakes in the Kazakhstan project shortly before the US deal was finalized.
