Anthropic's Rereleased Claude Fable 5 Reroutes Coding Work to Opus 4.8 More Often, Users Report
Users testing Claude Fable 5, Anthropic's advanced AI model, on July 2 said the rereleased version was falling back to Claude Opus 4.8 more often than before, reducing usability for coding work. In one shared example, 75% of a session was routed to Opus after the new classifiers misread routine coding prompts as cybersecurity issues.
Anthropic restored Fable 5 globally on July 1 after the US lifted export controls and said the redeployment included new classifiers to block more cybersecurity tasks. The company warned that a slightly higher fraction of harmless coding and debugging requests would fall back to Opus 4.8 while the filters were refined, but users and benchmark watchers on July 2 described the effect as much more aggressive; how widespread the fallback is remains unclear.

@synthwaveddGood news - Anthropic have been given the go-ahead for a full, global relaunch of Fable 5 once the order is formally lifted! I believe they'll wait until they're back in office (so tomorrow at the earliest) before kicking it off however
