Anthropic Raises Claude API Rate Limits and Simplifies Usage Tickers
Anthropic has raised API rate limits for all Claude Platform users and simplified its usage tiers, removing the previous system that tied access caps to API spend. The updated structure standardizes requests per minute and token throughput across the latest Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku language models within each tier, allowing developers to select models based on task requirements rather than throughput trade-offs. Advancement through the tier levels is now automatic, with manual upgrades available through the Claude Console.
The change also delivers a fivefold increase in rate limits for the latest Sonnet and Haiku models at the highest tier. By decoupling usage caps from spend, Anthropic aims to reduce a common bottleneck for developers building applications on its models, providing more predictable API access as demand for AI inference continues to scale.
