US Treasury Sanctions ISIS Crypto Wallets and Tether Freezes 131 Addresses
The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added 134 crypto wallet addresses linked to ISIS-K to its sanctions list Thursday. Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, froze funds across 131 of the addresses, all identified on the TRON blockchain network.
Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis reported that the targeted wallets received more than $1.4 million in cryptocurrency since 2023, with funds routing through Bitcoin, Monero, and the TRON network before settling into USDT. OFAC routinely updates its designations to freeze assets associated with terrorist financing and other illicit activities, requiring platforms and wallet providers to block transactions from the listed identifiers.
