Strategy Authorizes Up to $1.25 Billion in Bitcoin Sales
Michael Saylor’s Strategy has authorized up to $1.25 billion in Bitcoin sales, marking the largest potential digital currency liquidation approved by the company since it pivoted to accumulate the asset in 2020. The board sanctioned the program as part of a new Digital Credit Capital Framework, designed to boost the firm’s USD reserve to $2.55 billion and support an expanded 12% dividend rate on its STRC preferred securities. Following the disclosure, Strategy’s common stock rose approximately 6% in premarket trading.
Under the framework, sales of the digital asset may be executed to fund the cash reserve, cover dividend and interest expenses, or finance two separate repurchase programs totaling $2 billion—one for up to $1 billion of STRC shares and another for up to $1 billion of MSTR common stock. The authorization comes after a period of tightened liquidity, including a symbolic sale of 32 BTC in June during a cryptocurrency downturn and a recent $1.15 billion capital raise through MSTR share issuance. Strategy stated it holds 847,363 BTC and aims to maintain dividend coverage for 12 to 24 months.
