Mediterranean Shipping Co. to Acquire 49% Stake in Adani Vizhinjam Port for $1.4 Billion
Mediterranean Shipping Co. will invest $1.4 billion to acquire a 49% stake in Adani Vizhinjam Port, a deepwater transshipment hub in Kerala, India. The transaction, sold by Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd., marks the largest foreign private investment in the country's port infrastructure to date.
MSC, the world's largest container shipping line, is executing the acquisition through a subsidiary identified as TiL. The deal aligns with India's ongoing efforts to expand port capacity and attract foreign capital, as Vizhinjam is designed to handle increasing volumes of containerized cargo and dock the industry's largest vessels.
