Eight Sentenced to 450 Years for Federal Conviction in Texas ICE Detention Attack
Eight defendants, including the identified ringleader of a North Texas cell linked to the Antifa political movement, were sentenced Tuesday to a combined 450 years in federal prison for their roles in a July 2025 attack outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Alvarado, Texas. Benjamin Song received the longest sentence of 100 years after prosecutors proved he was the gunman who shot an Alvarado police officer in the neck during the incident. The group was convicted of charges including rioting, using explosives, and providing material support to terrorists, with sentencing documents outlining a premeditated plot involving tactical training, firearms procurement, and coordinated explosives deployment.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated the sentences demonstrate that violent extremism targeting law enforcement and federal facilities will face swift justice. The sentencing proceedings mark the first federal punishments for defendants affiliated with Antifa following a September 2025 executive order designating the decentralized activist network as a domestic terrorist organization. Convictions were reached after the cell's members, aside from Song, pleaded guilty and provided testimony during trial, with additional sentences ranging from 30 to 70 years concluded just before the one-year anniversary of the attack.
