Blast at Qatar's Barzan Gas Facility in Ras Laffan Injures 54, Leaves 18 Missing
Fifty-four people were injured and 18 were missing after an explosion and fire at Qatar's Barzan local gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, according to the Interior Ministry. The ministry attributed the blast to a technical malfunction, and QatarEnergy described it as an operational incident during start-up at the site. Emergency crews brought the fire under control, and authorities reported no leak threatening public safety.
The blast was first heard in Doha late Sunday before officials identified the site as Ras Laffan, an industrial hub near the capital that hosts Qatar's main LNG processing operations. Earlier ministry statements had described the accident as internal and listed no injuries, before the casualty toll was revised as the response continued.
