US Allows Anthropic to Release Claude Mythos 5 AI to 100 Trusted Organizations
The U.S. Commerce Department has allowed Anthropic to release Claude Mythos 5, its most advanced AI model for cybersecurity, to more than 100 trusted organizations. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed the decision in a letter addressed to Anthropic's chief compute officer Tom Brown, marking the first step in lifting export restrictions originally imposed on the company's frontier models on June 12 due to national security concerns.
Under the revised access rules, the approved group includes operators of critical infrastructure, major cloud providers, financial institutions, and prominent technology firms. Commerce Secretary Lutnick also granted permission for vetted foreign-national employees at these approved U.S. companies to use the model. The authorization lifts the requirement for individual export licenses for the named organizations, effectively restoring domestic access to Claude Mythos 5.
The Trump administration is also reportedly nearing a separate resolution to lift restrictions on another flagship model, Claude Fable 5. Axios reported Monday that officials and Anthropic are close to finalizing safety controls and trusted-user protocols, with insiders expecting the block on Fable 5 to be lifted as soon as this week. The company has been working closely with federal agencies over the past two weeks to negotiate terms for restoring general access to both models.
