Former Ethereum Foundation Researchers Launch Ethlabs, a Nonprofit Ethereum R&D Lab
Ethlabs, a nonprofit research and development lab focused on Ethereum and its native token, ether, launched Sunday with a founding team drawn from the Ethereum Foundation. In its launch announcement, the group said it aims to make Ethereum the "settlement layer of the global economy" and to turn the needs of users, applications, wallets, layer-2 networks and institutions into protocol work, shared standards, infrastructure and products.
The founding team includes Ansgar Dietrichs, Barnabé Monnot, Caspar Schwarz-Schilling, Josh Rudolf and Julian Ma. Ethlabs said it will operate independently, with research priorities set by its leadership rather than funders, and will focus on settlement efficiency, scalability, cross-chain interoperability, data availability and protocol economics. Separate launch announcements named backers including Bitmine, SharpLink, Joe Lubin, Anchorage, Octant and SNZ.
