Trump Orders Federal Shift to Quantum Cryptography by 2031, Launches 5-Year Quantum Computer Push
President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on quantum technology, one launching a national effort to produce a quantum computer capable of performing important scientific calculations and to develop quantum-enabled sensors and networks within five years. The second directs federal agencies to transition their computer systems to quantum cryptography by 2031 and to encourage wider adoption of the security standards.
The White House described the orders as aimed at strengthening U.S. leadership in quantum technologies. Sean Cairncross, the U.S. National Cyber Director, called the measures a way to help ensure American systems remain trusted and secure.
