Venezuela Quake Toll Hits 1,450 With 33 Rescued, Thousands Still Missing
International crews kept searching collapsed neighborhoods in Venezuela four days after twin earthquakes, with authorities putting the death toll at 1,450 and the number injured at more than 3,150. Reuters reported that 33 people had been rescued and thousands were still missing, while AFP journalists said a man and his teenage son were pulled alive from the rubble.
Foreign rescue teams continue to arrive. The U.S. State Department said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had touched down the day before, joining other crews already on the ground, and the World Food Programme said it had activated its supply chain so food can reach people once rescue operations end. In La Guaira, one of the worst-hit areas, widespread destruction has left many residents without homes and sleeping outdoors.
