Iran Says More Ships Seek Permission to Cross Hormuz After Warning Shots
Iranian state television said on Friday that more vessels were seeking permits from Tehran to transit the Strait of Hormuz after warning shots were fired at ships described as unauthorized.
Earlier in the day, the head of Iran's parliamentary national security committee warned that any breach of Iran's shipping rules in Hormuz would be met decisively, and the committee later said violations would be handled firmly. The comments follow days of disputes over routes and control in the strategic waterway, with Iranian officials insisting that vessels follow Tehran's shipping instructions.
