IMO Estimates About 80 Mines in Hormuz's Main Shipping Lane
Roughly 80 mines may still be in the usual Strait of Hormuz traffic lane, the International Maritime Organization, the United Nations shipping agency, said, indicating the waterway's normal channel remains hazardous.
The estimate comes after the IMO paused its plan to move hundreds of ships and about 11,000 stranded seafarers out of the Gulf when a Singapore-flagged cargo vessel was struck near Oman this week, though the agency said that ship was not operating under its framework. Oman and the IMO had been using temporary corridors outside the standard lane to restart traffic, with ship-tracking data showing crossings recovering from wartime lows but still below prewar levels.
