White House Tells Republicans to Expect $80 Billion Funding Request for Iran War
The White House has instructed Republican lawmakers to expect a formal request for approximately $80 billion to cover the costs of the war with Iran by the end of the week. The notice signals a progression in the administration's efforts to secure supplemental war financing before submitting the package to Congress.
The funding push follows Pentagon officials informing Congress earlier this month that current allocations will be exhausted by summer. Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg indicated that the supplemental funds are necessary to replenish depleted missile and ammunition stockpiles. In response, President Donald Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to accelerate manufacturing and convened a meeting with executives from Lockheed Martin, RTX, and Boeing. Trump also stated that Ford and General Motors may pivot some production lines to build interceptor missiles and cruise missiles to support the conflict.
