SpaceX Raises $25 Billion in Debt After Bond Sale Draws $89 Billion

businessstocks 53 posts · 24 accounts

Elon Musk’s SpaceX raised $25 billion in debt less than two weeks after its initial public offering, a debut issuance that attracted nearly $89 billion in investor demand. The aerospace and artificial intelligence company launched its first US dollar high-grade bond offering on June 23 to repay bridge loans from its IPO and fund general corporate purposes. The offering was oversubscribed more than four times, with investors purchasing notes across five maturities ranging from five to 30 years.

The financing comes as the company faces significant market pressure following its June 9 market debut. SpaceX shares fell approximately 2.7% on Wednesday, marking a roughly 30% decline from the peak reached immediately after the offering. According to data from Ortex, short interest in the stock jumped from 8% to 13% in a single session on Tuesday, reflecting growing bearish sentiment among traders. Despite the stock's decline, SpaceX disclosed it held $100.8 billion in cash as of June 19, following investment-grade ratings from Moody’s, Fitch, and S&P.
