EU Regulators Set to Clear Paramount’s $111 Billion Takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery
European regulators are expected to clear Paramount Skydance’s $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, conditional on remedies to address antitrust concerns, according to the Financial Times. The European Commission faces a July 7 deadline to approve the transaction or launch a deeper investigation.
The merger would combine major media assets including HBO, CNN, CBS News, Paramount Pictures, and Warner Bros. European officials raised questions about the deal's impact on competition and filmmakers' distribution channels, prompting a proposed remedy in which Paramount exits its international film distribution joint venture with Universal Pictures. The acquisition already received U.S. Department of Justice approval in June.
