Lawmakers Question Trump Export Controls on Anthropic's Latest AI Models

Members of Congress responded with skepticism and caution to the Trump administration’s export controls on Anthropic’s newest AI models, adding a political challenge to restrictions that have already limited access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5.

Broader access to those models was suspended after a U.S. directive barred access by foreign nationals. Some early Mythos users retained access through Project Glasswing, Anthropic’s controlled cybersecurity program, while the company and the White House worked on a technical framework to evaluate jailbreaks, or attempts to bypass model safeguards.

@kimmonismus

It probably has nothing to do with trying to win more goodwill, since Fable 5 still isn't available and- theoretically- won't be available via subscription after June 22nd, right?

@kimmonismus

Trump’s perspective on Anthropic as a possible national security risk, as well as his views on AI energy needs and regulatory policy. Let’s hope we’ll get fable 5 soon again.

@binarybits

The answer to this is also obvious. It takes time to build the guardrails, and you can't start until the model exists. And they wanted to give Glasswing partners as much time as possible to close vulnerabilities before Mythos-level models b
