Saylor Defends Strategy’s First Reported Bitcoin Sale Since 2022 as Needed for Digital Credit Business
Michael Saylor said Strategy needs to retain the ability to sell Bitcoin to support its digital credit business, defending the company’s first reported sale since 2022. Chief Executive Officer Phong Le said Strategy sold 32 Bitcoin to test its selling process, “inoculate” the market and generate tax losses that can offset related taxes.
The remarks cast the disposal as an operational step rather than a broader shift in policy. Saylor said he had never said the company would not sell Bitcoin, and Le said the sale was not intended to fund dividends because Strategy has other financing channels, though it may sell Bitcoin if that benefits common shareholders.
