US Treasury Sanctions Marada Leader Frangieh, Hezbollah Official Qamati and 5 Companies
The US Treasury sanctioned former Lebanese MP and Marada Movement leader Suleiman Frangieh, along with Mahmoud Qamati, deputy head of Hezbollah’s political council, and five companies in Syria, Iraq, Oman and Lebanon that it said support Hezbollah-linked financial and commercial networks. Treasury said the Lebanese officials used their influence to obstruct Lebanon’s peace process and delay Hezbollah’s disarmament.
The move expands the package beyond political figures to businesses and intermediaries that Treasury has described as part of a Hezbollah-associated business network, extending pressure on the group’s funding channels. Earlier descriptions of the sanctions said they targeted Lebanese officials and others for aiding Hezbollah.
