Brazil’s federal police are investigating an intrusion into the country’s civil defense alert system after an unauthorized extreme alert was sent to the mobile phones of millions of Brazilians on June 20. The false message contained the word “misanthropy.”
The notice was distributed nationwide through Brazil’s public emergency warning network. Authorities have described the episode as a probable cyberattack.
