SpaceX Briefly Overtakes Microsoft in Value as Leveraged ETF Volume Tops $3 Billion
SpaceX’s post-IPO trading wave intensified on Wednesday, with the company briefly overtaking Microsoft in value as leveraged ETFs tied to the stock generated more than $3 billion of trading volume, up from about $1 billion a day earlier. Leverage Shares’ SPCH alone traded $1.3 billion, which ETF analyst Eric Balchunas said was a record for an ETF on day two, while ProShares’ SPCF had taken in $184 million of cash. More than 1.7 million options contracts on the stock also traded on day one, according to Unusual Whales.
The activity extends a rapid buildout around SpaceX just days after its record $75 billion IPO, when multiple 2x long and short funds began trading, and it is reaching crypto-linked venues and tokenized-stock markets as well. The rally has raised questions for venture investors weighing whether to sell, and the shares later erased an intraday gain of as much as 6% to trade about 3% lower.
