Z.ai's Open-Weight GLM-5.2 Can Now Run Locally in 2-Bit Form at 238GB
Z.ai's GLM-5.2 is moving from benchmark leaderboards into broader deployment, with new quantized builds allowing the open-weight model to run locally. UnslothAI said a 2-bit version cuts the model to 238 gigabytes from 1.51 terabytes, or 84% smaller, while retaining about 82% accuracy, enabling use on 256-gigabyte Mac and other RAM/VRAM setups.
The rollout expands access to a model whose benchmark results this week lifted its profile among open-weight systems. Artificial Analysis scored GLM-5.2 at 51 on its Intelligence Index and 1,524 on GDPval-AA v2, and said it matched Claude Opus 4.8 at 20.9% on CritPt. GLM-5.2 also went live in Tabbit and was offered free for six hours across Hugging Face Inference Providers through Zai, Together AI, Novita, Fireworks and DeepInfra. The model adds an IndexShare mechanism designed to make 1 million-token inference cheaper.
