Japan’s ¥1 Trillion SBI Shinsei Bank to Let Depositors Convert Interest Into Bitcoin, Ether, XRP Starting June 10
Japan’s SBI Shinsei Bank, a ¥1 trillion lender, will let customers convert a portion of their deposit interest into Bitcoin, Ether or XRP in a pilot starting June 10. The offering would tie part of a conventional deposit return to cryptocurrency payouts.
Nikkei separately reported that the bank plans a crypto rewards program for depositors this fall. The initiative would give deposit customers a way to receive part of their returns in digital assets rather than only cash interest.
