OpenAI Prepares GPT-5.6, Calls It 'Meaningful Improvement' Over GPT-5.5
OpenAI is preparing to release a new AI model, dubbed GPT-5.6, that Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki described in a staff Slack message as a "meaningful improvement" over GPT-5.5, according to The Information. The report said the model is expected soon.
The same internal memo said Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman expects OpenAI to go public within the next year, though he left room to delay a listing if timelines to recursive self-improvement shorten. That would be more specific than OpenAI’s June 8 statement that it had confidentially submitted a draft S-1 to the US Securities and Exchange Commission and had not decided on IPO timing; Altman also told staff a tender offer was being prepared "very soon" at a current share price of $687.69, the report said.
