Trump Vows Response After U.S. Probe Ties Apache Crash Near Hormuz to Iranian Drone
President Donald Trump said the U.S. must respond after accusing Iran of shooting down a U.S. Army AH-64 Apache helicopter while it was patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. A U.S. official said an investigation determined that an Iranian drone struck the helicopter and caused it to crash, though investigators had not established whether the strike was intentional. Both crew members were safe and uninjured.
The crew spent about two hours in the water off the coast of Oman before climbing aboard a Saronic Technologies Corsair unmanned surface vessel and later being transferred for medical evaluation. Officials described the recovery as the first time an unmanned surface vessel has directly participated in the rescue of downed aircrew. The incident comes amid a fragile ceasefire in the region.
