Google Backstops $35 Billion Anthropic AI Chip Financing at 5 US Data Centers
Google is guaranteeing lease payments that underpin a $35 billion financing package for Anthropic’s AI chip capacity across five US data centers. The initial tranche, led by Apollo Global Management in partnership with Blackstone through a platform launched by Broadcom, is meant to support more than 1 gigawatt of compute infrastructure for Anthropic.
Apollo said the broader platform is designed to enable more than 20 gigawatts of compute capacity for leading frontier AI labs through 2028, making the Anthropic financing the first tranche in a larger buildout. The arrangement centers on Anthropic leasing Google TPU capacity, with Google’s backstops helping unlock the funding.
