Philippine Central Bank Bars VASPs From Listing Privacy-Enhancing Virtual Assets

cryptocrypto-regulationworld 2 posts · 2 accounts

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has barred virtual asset service providers from listing or supporting anonymity-enhancing, or privacy, virtual assets, according to The Philippine Star. The central bank also ordered VASPs to tighten token listing, monitoring and delisting standards, including due diligence on listed assets and triggers to remove tokens that no longer meet requirements.

The BSP memorandum requires providers to assess an issuer's background, market maturity, use case, transparency and traceability, security, liquidity, reserves and legal and compliance risks before a virtual asset is listed or traded. The measures would tighten oversight of crypto offerings in the Philippines by tying listing approval to ongoing monitoring and formal delisting standards.
