businessmacroeconomics 19 posts · 6 accounts

The New York Fed’s May Survey of Consumer Expectations showed one-year inflation expectations easing to 3.5% from 3.6% in April, while three-year and five-year views were unchanged at 3.1% and 3.0%. Expected gasoline-price increases over the next year edged down to 5.0%, but anticipated home-price gains rose to 3.5%, the highest since July 2022.

The survey also pointed to a weaker household backdrop. The proportion of positive financial outlooks relative to negative ones fell to the lowest since October 2022, the chance of losing a job over the next year increased, and perceived prospects for job seekers dropped to their lowest point this year.
