South Korea’s KOSPI Falls 6.5%, Triggers Circuit Breaker as Chip Losses Resume
South Korea’s KOSPI was down 6.5% in the latest Seoul session after earlier falling 6% and triggering a circuit breaker that temporarily suspended algorithmic trading. Samsung Electronics dropped 6.8% as chip stocks resumed losses and risk appetite weakened following a US strike on Iran.
The renewed selloff reversed much of the benchmark’s 7.27% rebound in the previous session and followed an earlier more than 8% opening plunge that prompted a 20-minute halt. The sharp swings underscore continuing volatility in Seoul’s chip-heavy market after a broader retreat in artificial-intelligence beneficiaries led by Samsung and SK Hynix.
