SpaceX Opens at $150 After Record $75 Billion IPO, Valuing Company at $1.96 Trillion
SpaceX began trading on Nasdaq at $150 a share on Friday after pricing 555.6 million shares at $135 in the largest initial public offering on record, lifting the company’s valuation from $1.77 trillion at the offer to about $1.96 trillion at the open. The debut made Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire on paper, with his SpaceX stake worth more than $766 billion and his Tesla stake about $280 billion, putting his net worth at roughly $1.05 trillion.
The $75 billion sale drew more than $350 billion in total demand, including about $100 billion of retail orders, and individual investors ultimately received 20% of the shares. The listing vaulted SpaceX into the ranks of the world’s most valuable companies even though it posted a loss of nearly $5 billion last year and generates only a fraction of the revenue of similarly valued tech giants.
